African Mission

African Mission is a small UK charity fighting poverty and disease in Africa

Projects 2011

The four projects that African Mission is presently supporting are:

Dunga primary school1.Fatima Mission is a Franciscan run Mission in rural Zimbabwe. It is 900 sq kms in size and has a number of primary schools, a secondary school (Fatima High School) and a clinic (Lubimbi Clinic) within its boundaries. One of the primary schools, Dunga Primary School in rural Zimbabwe had no windows, a dirt floor, wooden benches, no books, writing material or pens. The children are very poor, coming from the Tonga People, one of the poorest groups in Zimbabwe. We have succeeded in raising funds to provide the school with textbooks, exercise books & pens and we have just recently funded the building of a new classroom. We are now raising funds to build a Teachers cottage

2. Fatima high schoolFatima High School is one of the schools within Fatima Mission. When Nannette and I visited in January 2010 there were a number of broken windows and desks and one text book between 10-15 pupils. Despite this, the pupils came across as industrious and keen to learn. In response to the priorities outlined by the teaching staff, African Mission has to date purchased a laptop, a data projector, Science equipment and text books for three subjects.

hospital ward3. St Patrick's Hospital is on the outskirts of Hwange, a Colliery town in the North West of Zimbabwe. It is an efficiently run and very clean 72 bed hospital but lacking basic essentials such as mosquito mesh wiring for the windows, some of which needed replacing. As Malaria kills one million African children every year African Mission funded the replacing of the mosquito mesh wiring and broken windows. We have also recently helped fund a new incinerator and an industrial washing machine for the hospital.

4. Gulu hospitalDr Ray Towey's work in training medical and nurse students in the safe administration of anaesthetics and also raising the funds needed to buy much needed Intensive Care Unit equipment and medicines for St Mary's Hospital, Gulu, Uganda.
